I'm really not sure what this song means. But I'll take a stab at it: I think that this song is an optimistic view on sorrow in the sense that it tries to find the beauty behind sorrow. Such as if there is sorrow, there must also be love and trust, as the first part of the song states. I also think that this song tries to depict a sort of life independent from fate, where people can pave their own paths without relying on destiny or anybody else ("if we're strangers here, from the day we are born / why be afraid of freedom if it is yours?), even though it's very difficult. Basically, to sum everything up, this song, I think, is about finding yourself. And emerging stronger after suffering from sorrow. It just tries to find a mean of escape from this sorrow.
