I think this has the element of self-mutilation in it from the "I hurt myself again not knowing why." This could also explain the, "it's so easy to leave everything behind," "I think I'm cracking up, I think I've lost my mind." Through all of his self-inflicted pain, he has a moment of clarity: "There must be someone I can see / There's got to be something for me / Showing love, let it go free / I know its there waiting on me / Let it out, let it go free." He sees that there's reasons to continue living though he dwelled on taking his life.
