Futurism - A belief that the meaning of life and one's personal fulfillment lie in the future and not in the present or past.
Maybe this is Matt writing about how he has abandoned the christian faith, and saying about how it is so restraining and worthless, and that he can acheive a final heavenly state without putting himself under this restraint. Maybe I'm thinking too deeply... or not deep enough.
Loved your post. Definitely to do with his belief in something (if you look at the word Apostasy). But I think he means if people continue with their apathy and belief is something which they don't really act on, we are in for a dystopian future. He's actually done quite a few with this theme. The whole last album was basically about that. But this song really brings it out.

What I odn't understand is the part where he says 'evil in our veins', would make more sense if he said 'evil in our brains'?

Mumford and Sons has a similar thoughts. Song is called 'roll away your stone'. Obviously not as political,, but more from the point of view from a normal guy feeling what we all feel and inspiring himself to make it better, but fails ultimately
