It sounds like child abuse or a tragic childhood to me too but I don't think that's what it's about. To me, though, I Don't Want Your Love is about abuse, from the video, and Venice Drowning reminds me of Clergy abuse, it would be so like Duran Duran to write about that before it was popular ;). But no, I think this song is about Simon needing to regroup with the original band.
