to me it seems like he singing about in the north (of britan presumably) there are many people who are ignorant and violent.
When the singer returns to the north he realises this fact and gets in a fight.
"you know the numbers" could be a reference to these people only picking fights when they have superior numbers. or it could be about 'knowing the score'
anyway the singer no longer feels like they belong or can relate to the people in the north
