I think this song is about them not sounding punk on ELVA and Here's To The Mourning. They were sick of being a punk band and wanted something more. They were a punk band in the beginning ("well it was fun at the start"), but maybe UL was really destined to go on and do other things ("but maybe we're worlds apart"). They got sick of all the hecticity within the Southern CA surf/skate/punk scene with fashion and egos turning the tables and didn't want to "stay and drown" because "the drama got too thick". The rest of the song is pretty self-explanatory from my point of view.
