It always seemed to me like Daphne is just a fictional character Paul has made up to represent his ideal girl, someone he's looking for to fulfill his needs and desires. In a Pitchfork interview Paul said ,"I went through a phase where I was fixated on girls names that, for me, kind of represented something. So in "Precipitate", Daphne is the character. It was actually more to do with certain female names that were really interesting to me."
Alot of the lyrics are still pretty allusive to me but that just gives you a general idea of what the song is probaly about.
One line that always interested me was "Saturn makes your mind break in pieces." In Roman mythology Saturn is the god of agriculture who represented a golden utopian age of happiness. Maybe he's saying how constant happiness can make you go crazy, you "cannot find dimensions" and he's using this line as a persuasive mechanism to get this girl to "walk through his gloom"
I don't know. Just a thought.
