This is the obvious reason he’s “so damn lucky”: she went on ahead. Also, near the songs conclusion, Dave wishes he could be taken back until before he “got dizzy”. Though he claimed to have gotten dizzy due to the spinning of the car, there could be a double meaning, one of the classic subtleties in Dave’s lyrics that I love.
