Feeling a Moment Lyrics

This song I think is a direct reference (like so many of Feeder's songs these days) to the suicide of drummer Jon Lee. After reading their interview in Q Magazine last month, it's clear that Grant Nicholas is still very much mourning the loss of his best mate, and this song clearly shows it.

I think this song is about Grant's continuing search for peace of mind and a direction in his life away from Jon's ghost since his suicide. I think the lines "Am I just like you", and "Turning to face what you've become" are references to how lost and messed up he still feels about the whole situation, and how he wonders if this is how Jon felt before he died, and whether it'd just be easier to end it all (morbid, I know...). The lines:

"Buried the ashes of someone Broken by the Strain Trying to fill that space inside "

are obviously talking about the emptiness he feels from his loss.

I think on a more general level the song tries to convey a sense that we all suffer together, and to not feel alone because there's always someone willing to help you out of whatever mess you feel you've gotten yourself into:

"Don't ever feel that you're alone I'd never let you down I'd never leave you dry "

Grant expresses regret that Jon didn't talk to him more before he decided to commit suicide, and I think this song tries to touch people on that level, that talking can turn things around.

The chorus talks about the feelings of loneliness and depression.

This is a great song that really touched me and I think the vocals and lyrics really convey a sense of the sadness that Grant still carries with him. The high-pitched 'ooo's' at the beginning seem haunting almost. In my books it's right up there with 'comfort in sound', another song written about the same struggles. Feeder rock!!
