I think it's actually about someone who acts all important when people are around but is depressed when they're alone, and finally, when people know enough about them, they leave him to fend for himself instead of giving him attention. And the "you don't want to escape" and the "you won't escape" thing is about not being able to escape the attention you want, but not wanting to escape it either because the person is greedy.
