Incredible song... from my perspective, I think this song is talking about how at first the singer really got sucked into his girlfriend's world... he was sorry that he'd caused her pain and that he'd let himself become so vulnerable as to fall in love...
Then in the latter part of the song, he says "I didn't mean to make you shine" and points out that he did more for her than she did for him.
"I'm everything without you" is his victory cry...
