Ramagamma, graham isnt trying to be bigger than blur, he left because he didnt want to write 'another parklife'. Anyway onto the meaning of this song.

The pop-punk guitars are meant as a kind of irony, he's writing a mainstreamish style song as a semi attack on mainstream music. "nothin to loose nothing to gain" can be seen as a statement about young bands, they've come from nothing but in the end theyll have nothing. It can also be seen as a reference to his solo career. He's got nothin to loose from it and he knows that he wont acheive his former level of stardom.

"the price of friendship is way too dear" could be a reference to blur, but i doubt it. Its hard to find true friends in the music industry, i think thats what this line was refering to.

Its a semi warning to other musicians.

thats what it means to me.
