The song Ever So Sweet is about a guy in a relationship that he knows is over, but he keeps holding onto it. “I just found a friend, in one of your lies..” Here, he is saying how willing he was to grab onto anything the girl said to him, no matter how untrue it seemed, he still let himself act as the victim. “To treat me so nice, I can’t believe my bones when they say so many things. They tell me I am fine, believe me, I try.” Again, he says how he let himself believe all of her lies, and he liked how he felt, even if the things she said weren’t real. In his mind, he knows that she is lying and being untrue, but there are parts of him that won’t let go, because when she does those things to him, he feels like she actually loves him. On the surface, he tries to convince himself that it is alright, and that she truly does feel this way, but the convincing never quite works well enough and he’s left empty-handed. “Ever so sweet, you baked it in cakes for me.” All of her deceptions were well-planned and sugar-coated, as if she thought it would lessen the blow, and possibly rid his mind of suspicions. Overall I think this song is describing some sort of failing relationship, yet he’s not ready to let go quite yet.
