I think this song is about major label acts that have benefit gigs that mean nothing. Bands that donate portions of there millions to starving third world kids, but really do nothing. They never blame anyone, always playing it save. They never donate a significant percentage of their wealth just "crumbs at their convenience". It's all about feeling good about yourself, and not really helping the starving. An obvious example of this is that shitty "We are the world" or "Do they even know its Christmas". Where all these pseudo intellectual artists make one big shitty song that changes nothing, to try to make it seem like they care. Bono could sell his mansion and really try to help, but he doesn't. They're all part of the united artists crusade.
