RTB was very into layering, see Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody also produced by him. Oh No has an incredible lush analog synth sound; it was just before the DX7 and Fairlight CMI turned everything into cold gleaming digital glaciers. So it’s a warm and surprisingly deep study of analog synthesis, with Devo’s entire collection of instruments at that time. Possibly the best purely analog-synth album there ever was. The entire album, "Oh, No! It's Devo!" is their best work and this song is the best on the album.
