Wow, I've been absent for awhile on this. "Instrumental" (and "Stop Trying") is my favorite part of the cd "3". As always in this song Joe's writing is incredible.
To me this song is about the band itself, or the band and those close to them. The title hints at their focus on instrumentation ('realize the beauty hidden in the missing word'). 'With no guarantee we're making it seem we're on our way,' sounds like their push towards trying to make it on the music scene. The line "You think you wanted to be hand chosen," couple with that former line in a way to say that if it's worth making it then it's worth working hard for / you can't just fall into it.
