I twist it a little bit and make it a nice love story, but I'm pretty sure it's about his mother who died during the recording of "Drops of Jupiter" Whatever it's about it's a really great song about having someone with you always. I really love the 2nd verse the dancing on the kitchen floor set up against that romantic scene of a sunset is really great. And yes, sunsets with your mother can be cool ... there's a line you don't cross ... but they can be cool. I think of my grandmother who died of cancer when I hear the song. Always a pillar of strength to me.
