i like both of what Grug and p3nguinpi3 are getting at. when i used to listen to this song over and over again few years ago in my dorm, it always gave me the impression that younger people are more open minded and therefore able to receive the "Starman", he warns his friend not to tell the parents, and so far the narrator and his friend are the ones who are able to perceive the STarman's communication. i am leaning towards the Starman representing englightenment of some kind. the parents, older generation are closed-minded and their judgements have been controlled by things like culture and religion. remember, he'd "blow our minds"! = too much of a shock for our learned beliefs. perhaps my opinion is biased by the fact that i was listening to this song at a period of my life where i left the church cos i thought it was too stifling and intolerant.
