wow I posted on here like 2 years ago. for any curious guitarists, its in standard tuning and for the intro he has a slap-back delay and is simply slapping the strings with his playing hand repeatedly. Look for the video on Letterman. He does the same thing in "Without a Face" on Evil Empire (RATM).

"Independent from the name, It's sort of about seeing people and you're life - when I say 'you' the singer is sort of like the narrator, and I don't always consider that guy to be me. Although I was in the video laughs. Seeing people in their lives just kind of meander into older age and not really growing, not becoming uh who they could be, and then they get bummed out about it. It's kind of...sometimes it's a mid-life crisis, sometimes it's like a mid-youth crisis, and, and, and the singer is like saying "See ya", and cutting the ties with that cause the singer is going off into a new world."
