This is about a slightly neurotic person who can never have things be spontaneous.

"Did you forget to read the script? There was never a role for him. It was always you and me. Just me."

He didn't plan on having another person enter the scene, which is why he doesn't know what to do now.

"Popular Mechanics for Broken Hearts could help me now. "

He wishes there was some sort of manual that could tell him exactly to handle the situation.

"I know you never felt romance, and we always lacked suspense. But I can edit those parts out."

This reiterates what I said about his lack of spontaneity, and I think the girlfriend has found another person because she is so bored by her romance with this guy. He is definitely not exciting.

"I heard he wrote you a song, but so what? Some guy wrote sixty-nine, and one just ain't enough. And there's no sense even trying. I know, cause I've been trying all the time to find the song that would make you mine. But all I ever find, my love, are clichés that don't rhyme. "

That entire thing is my favorite part.
