When I first heard it, I thought it was about a guy who's girlfriend had to go away for a while ("as I wave your east-bound plane away") for whatever reason - family, business, etc. If it was about a bad break up I don't think he would've given her his favourite Bic light, but that's just my opinion. He's just telling her how much he misses her and how muc he really needs her to live his life fully, and how when she gets back he's gonna really show it to her.
