it's a reference to relationships with people you used to be close to. Especially when you have changed and these old aquaintences represent part of your old self that you're trying to leave behind. You still care about them, but it will never be the same as it once was.
I love the ending with the heavy guitar rif

it's like a challenge to move on, even though there's so much uncertainty.
