i talked to drew about this song when he came through charlotte. essentially it is about how as he was becoming more independent and going his own ways (art and music) his dad, who he had been very close with, became very rigid. something i think a lot of us can relate to as we experience the pains of growing up. the line "in the nervous light" is a line from one of his dad's favorite books. he put it in there to vent the feelings he had, thats also why you see the line " my dads favorite novel on top of the pile, in the self concious first light shake the memory of his smile" a great job of capturing the emotion of seperation. thats basically how he explained it to me, making this song much more meaningful and tangible in my own life.
