I thought the first bit was about some loser kid getting beat up by his dad, because his dad thinks he is not good enough for him. (Hence invisible scars and "Don't you wanna shine like the stars?" etc.)
And then the second part is the kid when he is older trying to be accepted by everone else by buying material things (Cars etc.)
