Early Spring 2004... Chris Evenson begins working on new music, for what he isn’t sure but he writes over an album’s worth of new material in the waning moments of his decade long band, Sense Field, and the outpouring of material continues well past Sense Field’s official demise in January of 2004.
Brett Detar, of The Juliana Theory and with whom Sense Field had toured in the past, coincidentally connects with Chris right at the moment when the music has begun to take shape. The two realize they have both been looking for a side project - something free form, something with no expectations and something that doesn’t have to fit the framework of either of their current or past bands.
The first song from the pairing, who refer to this new project as Belasana, is “Bittersweet Eve,” a song written for “Maybe This Christmas Tree,” a holiday album also including Death Cab For Cutie, Pedro The Lion, The Polyphonic Spree and others. For this song, Brett writes the lyrics and sings and Chris creates and plays the music. Where Belasana goes next is open-ended, just like Brett and Chris want it. One thing is certain, there will be more music...
