To me, it's about a relationship that went sour before it got too serious- but was amazing. I always compare it to this guy who I was completely in love with- we never really quite made it to official couple, therefore we never entered that eretheral world Neil talks about in the first part of the song, the dancing together in the nevermore.
Sadly, the relationship went sour and we rarely saw eachother.
