I'm going to give this a shot, even though the meaning of this song isn't too hard to figure out.

In the very beginning the verse,

they fall in line one at a time ready to play (I can't see them anyway)

brings to mind Covenant forces dropping in. "I can't see them anyway," makes me think of MC's sheer focus on the mission at hand that everything else is "blurred" and of little importance.

The chorus,

only the strongest will survive leaving to heaven when we die I am the shadow on the wall I'll be the one to save us all

is reminiscent of Master Chief because, well... it should be obvious : ) He is the last one of his kind (that's known, at any rate), and he's obviously set apart from other UNSC soldiers ("shadow on the wall,") and time and time again they count on him for their survival (same with the line, "holding your fate").

What I think is open to some interpretation may be the line, "I will stay unless I'm made." Master Chief, in essence, was "made" through the genetic and technological enhancements of the SPARTAN project, and that line in particular made me think that its meaning is that the UNSC marines usually stay behind and MC forges on ahead alone because he's the only person capable of doing the job.

Perhaps I've overanalyzed this completely, but that's my two cents. ;D

i don't think you over-analyzed. i think you nailed it right on. it would make sense, especially if it was made specifically FOR halo 2.

i'm 101% sure it's 'I will stay in the mess i made' Because he wasn't made. his body was augmented and he was trained to be a Spartan, the best of the best, but the UNSC didn't MAKE him.

also, 'I will stay in the mess i made' makes sense in the way that he causes chaos in the covenant ranks, and he stays until the job is done. then he finds some crazy resourceful way to evacuate and move onto the next challenge

sorry, you got most of it right anyway. but people who haven't played the halo series can...
