Has anyone ever read Catch-22? I'm in the middle of it, and Heller writes about these characters "negatively." He doesn't describe them with what they DO, but it's what they DON'T DO that make them individual characters. For instance, Yossarian was thinking about the Captian's Club (I believe it was called), and he was proud for all the work that he DIDN'T put into it.
That's the sort of feeling I get from Eel's love songs.
