He, she, and son, plus it being a punk rock song, probably and more realistically means it's just about him having bad parents that have been fighting for around three years and the son is or was caught in the middle of it and probably used as an arguing technique in some cases. Such as,"Son I'll be leaving now; I can't be the person that you want me to be," and then the mother twisting his words around to use against him suggests that the mother may have said something similar about the father not being the dad his son...
