This is such a well written song because Chris is saying basically, "Stop expecting me to hurt you and break your heart". (which is why he goes on to say "I will stay...etc"). And I think this is just a great song because it's kind of an eye opener because "You've been burned more than once...you don't think much of trust" And so he is saying that she has been hurt before so she is afraid to love and she's so sure that he will hurt her. But in reality, that's the last thing he wants to do..
