Hmm, I think it's more ironic than that. I don't think it should be taken at face value. I think it's a gentle critique of people who have that attitude; who don't want to learn anything because it doesn't affect them directly.
However, it's also a celebration of the first time independent living of those moving away from home and leaving school I feel. "I get up when I like" etc etc.
