This is a song about death, suicide. The masks we wear to convince ourselves that all is well, while covering our fears, our black hearts.
However, as with all of Glen's lyrics the meanings are quite often inscrutible. To me this song is joyous, a song asking people to look into themselves, to lift themselves up from this often depressing life.
