Since he starts out with talking about his mom and dad, I feel that it talks about parental communication. It's like they're talking "two-way monologues," which doesn't include compromising. It includes voicing out one's opinion, but being oblivious to the world around oneself. The "I shouldn't have to spell my name" bit is the result of his parents being so wrapped up in their conflict that they forget everything else, including the things that matter the most such as their children.
But.. I'm dumbfounded to what "turkey-free" means other than "without turkey." :P
