He originally sang this song on Ally McBeal. In this episode, he wanted to take a friend to the prom and she agreed. He was going to sing this song to her. A week beforehand, though, she decides to go with a popular guy instead. Ally decides to go with him (in one scene telling a girl that she was his mistress, and not his mother ^_^), and she encourages him to sing to her anyway. He does, and everybody loves it!
