Underneath it all, Trent still knows that God is true. He tries to become numb to the fact and ignore the feellings but they're still inside. He kills his brain, perhaps with drugs or just trying to kill any though relating to a true God.

Even in death, he relizes, God is true and no amount of trying will kill that fact. Trent will allways, on the inside, know that God is true.
@DJgif I think for some people it's harder to deny God. I was an atheist for the first 20 years of my life and I'd spend my days blissfully denying God's existence in discussions with other atheist friends but when I'd go home at night and lay awake in bed I just knew that I was wrong and it scared me. I'm glad I asked the questions, and even more glad that God answered them.
