Cthulhu is used more as a symbolic in this song I think. And historical significance means nothing in the ritual chamber... Er, read a book by Peter Carroll (Liber Null and Psychonaut maybe?) before you begin Lovecraft-esque occultism. Cthulhu is seen as a manifestation of raw human fear (I don't recall that as being noted in Carrols work, but this applies in the song). And I know you were reffering to the Simon Necronomicon hehe, the guy switched KUTULU (Cthulhu) for TIAMAT sometimes, made no sense. I guess calling it the Necronomicon helped sales though.
