If you study the romans, we are surprisingly similair in many aspects of our customs and civilization, I'm not going to give a history lesson, but I was startled to learn how we are repeating history (not just our government, but everything we do as a people, its all been done and a lot was done by the romans)
"take stock in a (the) master plan" is what I heard, and it makes more sense, "get stuck" has a more accusatory tone than the rest of the song. I think the land mine analogy is a great one, a reference to vietnam/ww2 i think
laslty, although the political overtones are obvious, I think matt is still making refernce to friendships/relationships gone wrong, as many of the lines could mean both:

Make peace like i know you could
