Anyway, I'm inclined to say this song is about someone who feels like s/he has nowhere to turn and no one to lean on for comfort, including religion, but it's not focused specifically on that aspect. The person is disgusted with society and doesn't want anything to do with either social cliques or antisocial cliques. S/he seems to feel looked down on by society as well. The references to mental illness and associated confinement may be metaphorical for a more abstract form of alienation...
