the opening lines are saying we are leaves on a tree, we begin to rust and turn into an older form. such as "old folks". hints "old folks home smell so much like my own", as in we really arn't all that different from the elderly. "then get left alone" could possibly mean death. im guessing hotcha girls are kind of like, "hootchie" girls, the young pretty girls all men lust over. when we get older and aapproach death we are left alone by these beutiful girls who are so important to us. the other versus like "we were dropping dimes on the ponies" i really have no idea about, maybe personal references to isaac's childhood memories? im not sure.
