This album is about a woman in love with an abusive alcoholic. This song is told through her eyes. He keeps promising he'll stop drinking but he's a liar, he has no real intention of quitting, he refuses to get help, so he ends up getting drunk and belligerent toward her and ultimately abusing her. These drinking binges can go on for days, but when he's done with the binge he doesn't even understand how much damage he did while he was drunk, he doesn't even remember most of it. She's absolutely devastated by the pain he's caused her. She can barely get out of bed, she's had to miss work, and she can't stop crying. But he usually thinks she's overreacting, that it was no big deal, and he rarely ever apologizes for his behavior. Every once in a while it's so bad that he actually DOES apologize, he says that he really DOES want to quit drinking, he doesn't want to lose her, but his words are nothing but a bunch of lies. She wants to believe him, she tries SO hard to make him understand, she forgives him over and over again, she tries so hard to make him happy, hoping he might actually start to care about her, yet he keeps lying to her...and nothing hurts more than when you love someone so much you'd do anything for them, and instead of appreciating you they just keep telling you more and more lies. "Of all the people there could be, you had to tell your lies to me. Of all the people there could be, it had to be you."
