for me, this song takes place at the end of a relationship that went wrong...they are trying to go out, meeting other people, but they're just not seeing in these new people what they saw in each other, but they know they can't be together. They're desperately trying to have a "good time" with someone else, but are only thinking of each other. "You know you made my heart real strong even if you made my head real thin" is my favorite line. It explains every bad relationship...you fell in love and you knew you should just walk away, but you were thinking with your heart instead of your head...bittersweet :)
