This is my favorite song from "Heavier Things". There is something so powerful about it. It's beautifully sad and romantic. I love everything about it. I never quite knew what split screen sadness meant, but the "split screen" aspect of 60s films makes sense. Like, when two people are on the phone and the screen splits in half - well, in this song John mentions the phone quite a bit and I think that could be the derivative.
