I think its about a girl he likes that isn't a christian. He keeps going through things in his mind and re-analyzing them over and over trhying to justify being able to date her. I think he's referring to the verse about being unequally yolked when he mentions "don't touch teh positive.... left alone inthe dark" because although you might get along well at first, eventually such a relationship will simply make you empty... anyway, that's what i think.. it kinda hit me once driving home.
