Lyric discussion by CB2001

I know this is going to sound weird, but when I heard this song, I thought about the movies "Kill Bill" (both Vol.1 and Vol.2). I'll break it down.

If you haven't seen "Kill Bill" (either or both volumes, then please do not proceed to read this).

S P O I L E R

W A R N I N G

Memories consume Like opening the wound I'm picking me apart again You all assume I'm safe here in my room Unless I try to start again

The above remind me of the scene where the Bride wakes up in the hospital room from her coma. "Memories consume like opening the wounds, they're picking me apart again" seems as literal in the turns of the character. I mean, her memories of the betrayl of the Dealy Viper Assassination Squad has consumed her to the point that it has ripped her emotionally into pieces and where vengence seems to be the only emotion that consumes her.

(Bridge:) I don't want to be the one The battles always choose 'Cause inside I realize That I'm the one confused

This to me reminds me of the Bride and her reaction to having to kill O-Ren, how it was difficult. Though she was friends with the people she's after, she does find it hard to kill O-Ren when it comes to it. However, after that first kill, it's easier but not as simple.

(Chorus:) I don't know what's worth fighting for Or why I have to scream I don't know why I instigate And say what I don't mean I don't know how I got this way I know it's not alright So I'm breaking the habit I'm breaking the habit Tonight

Pretty much reminds me of everything from when she gets the sword to starting her fight through everyone in her way just to get to Bill. She's breaking the habit of being a member of the Vipers, and becoming Vengence Incarnate.

Clutching my cure I tightly lock the door I try to catch my breath again I hurt much more Than anytime before I had no options left again

Reminds me of how she holds the sword in her hands after it is handed to her by Hattori Hanzo, plus how she stares at Sofie through the bathroom stall door. This also suggests that she is thinking that there is no other option to lure O-Ren out during the House of Blue Leaves sequence.

(Bridge:) I dont want to be the one The battles always choose 'Cause inside I realize That I'm the one confused

(Chorus:) I don't know what's worth fighting for Or why I have to scream I don't know why I instigate And say what I don't mean I don't know how I got this way I'll never be alright So, I'm breaking the habit I'm breaking the habit Tonight

Same as before.

(Bridge:) I'll paint it on the walls 'Cause I'm the one at fault I'll never fight again And this is how it ends

When I hear the "I'll paint it on the walls", I mentally add "with blood", because that seems like what Beatrix would use. And techically, for all of the events, she was "at fault" for the El Paso Massacre. Did she truly believe that Bill wouldn't find her? And if she didn't then did she really expect a soft reaction from Bill? For the "I'll never fight again And this is how it ends", it reminds me of Bill's last steps and I think that it could easily be put in the context of the possible end she may have at the hands of Nikki Bell later on in life.

[Chorus:] I don't know what's worth fighting for Or why I have to scream But now I have some clarity to show you what I mean I don't know how I got this way I'll never be alright So, I'm breaking the habit I'm breaking the habit I’m breaking the habit Tonight

Same as before, this time, I actually think of the ending of "Vol. 2", the lioness and cub reunited.

Okay, I admit. I'm a film geek. But I found it kinda odd that one of the animated girls in the video looked a little bit like O-Ren from the "Origin of O-Ren" anime sequence.
