The song is basically pointing out that the problems of the country aren't the fault of just a few people, but of everybody (that's true for most of the world as well.). When Jim Lindberg says "they're all the same" in this song, he's not just generalizing about the right-wing, as most people think he is. Just because these guys have strong beliefs doesn't mean that anything political that they say is just an attack on the poeple who don't agree with them. I belive you're thinking of Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh (okay, okay, and Michael Moore too, i guess).

Back to the song... he's basically explicitly criticising leaders and poeple with power of exploiting others for their own gain, and saying that there's no difference between all the groups and people that do this, because the outcome is always the same -- things become worse for everyone else. He's also implicitly criticising the poeple who'll bitch about things without being a part of a solution. That's esentially what the song is about, it's not so much about pointing out that things have gone wrong, but about pointing out what exactly is wrong to make them better. So if H2AF wants to define making the world a better place as being 'leftist', be my guest.
