well, we know a cicada is a bastard irritating insect that hides underground for 17 years, comes above ground, mates, and dies... the parallels to a sexually frustrated teenager sort of manifests itself rather easily...
and it's unfortunate that Daniel Johns hates this song so... for it's my favourite off that Frogstomp album. I know his voice was exhausted/shot by time he was recording Cicada; i wonder if that fuels his resent.
yeah i like the song too, but if you read it it does look like one of those things you write trying your best to make things rhyme. I'm gonna assume that's why he hates it lol but in general its a good song to listen to if you don't pay too much attention to the lyrics (though they aren't so bad considering when he wrote it)
