i don't think the song talks about just a relationship or break up specifically. i think it talks about mistakes in general: break-ups, fights, youthful antics, anything under the sun that invokes regret. i just think the emotion and lyrics aer just too big and too overwhelming for it to be just about a break-up...i don't know...just my opinion anyways..
