This song reminds me of a situation as well. Me and my ex were engaged and she didn't know if it was the right thing to do (although I was the best thing that ever happened to her) so we split up to make sure this was right. She came back saying that she was sure this time. Same thing happened again. It appears to me that it's about someone that doesn't know what they want and is too ignorant or scared to see what is best for them. They also don't realize that they can't keep it up "Your chances fade away... Maybe you're oblivious inside" . The person on the other side of the fence doesn't want to let go or give up although they are taking all this punishment (the first verse)
