I think this song is firstly touching on violence in relationships. The opening 4 lines suggest that, and this girl kept going back to this person even though he kept mistreating her,but that was something that happened in the past with this person he is currently with. And he is basically telling the story from the time of the wedding day or something like that. And then you go into all the "THANK YOU...etc. etc."
So Matt is basically thanking this person for making him the only one that she wants, because he loves her so much.
