personally, i think this song is about the band's disillusionment with established political parties. talking about the beltway spinning round, going down, and taking the monuments with it works as an indictment of national politics. "we'll sleep on ice when this bed is on fire/ we'll sleep all nice but instead of retire, we'll kick those lights out" seems like it's about privileged politicians living comfortably in seats of power as opposed to letting in others.
More importantly, though, this song is dancy as hell.
